A relaxing and extremely enjoyable ‘Botanical Plat A relaxing and extremely enjoyable ‘Botanical Plate-making’ workshop @creativecourseskent with the lovely @together_bynature. Such an interesting selection of wild flowers and foliage from the local fields and hedgerows and a fascinating selection of books on their folklore and symbolism as well as the medicinal uses associated with them. Thanks for leading such a meditative and informative workshop Forest. A wonderful way to spend a Saturday morning 🫶.

A interesting little exhibition @assembly_house Norwich titled: Mary Newcomb: A Life Recorded.
Mary Newcomb (1922-2008) was a self-taught artist who settled in rural East Anglia. Her life and art were rooted in everyday observation and the natural world, her unique visual language and poetic vision closely aligned with her writing. (Interestingly we have a painting by her daughter Tessa Newcomb who appears to be following in her creative mother’s footsteps).

House in a Graveyard by @christophergeepaintings. House in a Graveyard by @christophergeepaintings. I recently added this intriguing piece to my small collection of Christopher’s work - mainly mysterious and slightly unsettling paintings of solitary vernacular buildings in moonlit landscapes (although I also have a few of his wonderful animal portraits). This particular work is part of a new series of chalk drawings (this one on painted wood) - poetic spectral images of ruined buildings and ghost ships. It appeals because I am always drawn to thin places - where past, present and perhaps future coexist or collide - what TS Eliot refers to in his poetry as the ‘still point’. We actually considered buying a house in a graveyard, once upon a time. I have always been drawn to the uncanny but that may have been a step too far 👻. (Chalky ceramic vessels also pictured by @gilliangoldceramics).

A beautiful and unexpected gift from a lovely arti A beautiful and unexpected gift from a lovely artist neighbour / friend - this pebble is bound with locally-sourced dandelion stalks.
Some online research has lead me down an internet wormhole to various sites /articles and makers connected with Japanese rock wrapping - tsutsumo (wrapping) and ishi-tsutsumo (pebble wrapping) - meditative art forms using twine, cord or leather to encase stones in intricate, often, symmetrical knots. Apparently it symbolises protection, care and a deep connection to nature, acting as a safe journey amulet. Fascinating and inspiring 🙏.

I was captivated yesterday, on a day trip to Rye, I was captivated yesterday, on a day trip to Rye, by this wonderful, enigmatic painting entitled ‘Remember’ by Matt Hardman - @hardman9 - currently on display @ryeartgallery as part of their ‘Stillness After’ exhibition. Certain art works suggest a hidden narrative. There’s a story here but I suspect it’s a sad one ❤️.
